Dr. Adam Coffey
Dr. Adam Coffey is a clinical and forensic psychologist. He specializes in conducting forensic mental health evaluations for adults and juveniles focusing primarily on criminal and civil legal issues. He has specialized training and experience in conducting evaluations pertaining to a variety of psycho-legal issues, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, mitigation for sentencing, violence risk assessment, risk for sexual violence, parental capacity, and fitness for duty. Dr. Coffey also provides psychological assessment and consultative services to insurers, healthcare professionals, and individuals. He routinely conducts assessments with individuals who have experienced discrete and complex trauma, severe and persistent mental health and substance use disorders, and personality-related concerns. Dr. Coffey also provides trial consultation to attorneys and has provided expert testimony pertaining to a variety of legal and administrative matters.
Dr. Coffey completed his graduate training in clinical and forensic psychology at the University of Alabama in 2019. He completed his pre-doctoral residency and a one-year post-doctoral fellowship at Patton State Hospital in California, where he developed expertise in conducting forensic mental health evaluations and providing treatment to forensically involved individuals. He also worked as a staff psychologist at Patton State Hospital for one year, where he assessed and treated individuals with severe mental illness, intellectual and cognitive disorders, behavioral disturbances, and substance abuse. Prior to co-founding CBA, Dr. Coffey maintained an independent assessment practice and also worked for a healthcare company that provides evaluations and treatment services to individuals in custodial settings.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Coffey maintains an active research agenda and leads the Forensic Evaluator Research Group, an international, interdisciplinary research group that conducts empirical research on issues relevant to the practice of clinical and forensic psychology. To date, he has published 22 peer-reviewed articles and is authored on over 50 conference presentations.
